Religion

The spiritual formation of our students is a primary goal of our school. This is achieved on a daily basis through prayer and religious instruction. Special Liturgies and services are celebrated together to reinforce our community of faith.  Worship becomes a lived experience through the students' active involvement/participation in the planning of weekly liturgies, as leaders of prayers, as readers, as gift bearers, as cantors, as choir and instrumental accompaniments.

Language Arts

The language arts program teaches the techniques necessary for good written and oral communication, while fostering creative expression. The curriculum helps students acquire a command of English grammar, while developing critical thinking and oral communication skills. A writing portfolio is maintained for all students in all grades. This portfolio contains samples of the various writings that are emphasized in each grade level.

Reading

The reading program is organized to provide sequential, comprehensive, and flexible reading instruction that relates reading to other subject areas. The major goals of reading instruction are to develop early independence in reading and a life-long interest in reading. The reading instruction respects the individual differences of each student through programs that include ability grouping, continuous progress, remedial, and enrichment reading programs.

Mathematics

The mathematics program is aimed at developing and nurturing an understanding of basic concepts, patterns, and relationships, which reveal the structure of mathematics. Students learn to acquire accuracy, skill, and speed in fundamental operations, and become proficient in the terminology of mathematics. Skills such as problem solving, estimation, reasoning and critical thinking are developed using many types of learning styles and manipulatives.  A math portfolio is also maintained for all students in all grades.

Science

Our science curriculum is geared toward promoting the development of knowledge and critical thinking for our highly technologically sophisticated society. At every grade level, science is taught through methodical, sequential activities, emphasizing observation and experimentation. Measurement skills are reinforced through integration with the math curriculum. The scientific method is especially emphasized through the execution of individual, (annual, award winning), PA Jr. Academy of Science projects.

Social Studies

Students are exposed to social studies through both textbooks and hands-on learning.  Our focus in this discipline is the study of people and their relationships with their social and physical environments.   It is taught as a major subject in Grades Three through Eight.
