FIFTH GRADE

Welcome to the Fifth Grade!  This year is a very exciting and challenging adventure.  Our journey includes many transitions for the Fifth Grade student:

- Physical changes

- Concerns about self-awareness

- Peer acceptance

- Academics and schedules

- Deeper commitment to faith journey

It is amazing how students develop a deeper ownership of their contributions and responsibility to their work and study habits. Accordingly, students enjoy this new independence, however daunting it may seem at times.  Nevertheless, they will know that the teachers are available for faith, guidance, support, and acceptance.  More importantly, it is through our faith-centered approach that we appreciate these unique and life-developing lessons.

In summary, I look forward to working to help all our students succeed through these many transitions.  In our partnership, teachers, parents, students, and God's Graces, we will accomplish great things!

Take care and God Bless!

My Philosophy

I believe that the responsibility of educating our children falls on teachers, parents, school professionals, and the community.  Each of the participants in the education process must show a great deal of commitment and accountability.

Foremost, my responsibility as a teacher is to be a life-long learner myself by reading, taking classes and researching and then implementing this information the classroom setting.  Also, I feel my positive and energetic approach is conducive to the learning atmosphere.

In addition, holding high expectations is an important element in motivating students to achieve higher goals. It is amazing to see students working to their potential when the bar is set high.  They too are amazed and inspired by their accomplishments.

As a teacher, I also help to foster growth in the social, intellectual, physical, and most importantly spiritual development of a child.  These needs can be met by tapping into a child's learning style.  Materials presented in various ways enable all children to respond according to their personal learning abilities.  In addition, working together in cooperative groups help children to be more accepting of information and thus they tend to retain and accommodate new knowledge.

All students must have the opportunities available to learn.  The standard qualities must be supported with the help of the teachers, students, parents, other professionals and the community.  All must work together to make the learning process a success.

Fifth Grade Classroom Rules

The rules that are rudimentary to our classroom are as follows:

- Raise your hand to participate in class

- Come prepared with all materials

- Prepare materials in a neat and orderly manner
