MUSIC |
|
Welcome to Kindergarten through 5th grade music at Sacred Heart School. My Philosophy It is my belief that every child has musical ability. Music is a vital part of the student academic experience. Musical education is an important component of a student's learning and success. Music gives the students a chance for self-expression, which helps build self-esteem. Teamwork skills are enhanced when they work as a group to bring a musical masterpiece together. Music is a gift from God to be treasured, nurtured and encouraged to grow. Classroom Rules 1. Respect for the teacher and for each other is required. 2. Always try your best. 3. Refrain from talking when the teacher or another student is talking. 4. Please raise your hand when you have something to share. 5. Come to class prepared. 6. Have fun! Curriculum Concepts covered in K-5 music classes are rhythm, tempo, pitch, expression, melody and form. All grades also learn music theory, liturgical music, cultural music and different musical styles. Working with each grade level, I strive to implement current curriculum in core subjects within the music class whenever possible. Homework Grades 1 & 2 will have one project per school year. Grades 3, 4, & 5 will have two projects per school year. A Little About Me My name is Rose Prentice and I was born and raised in the Northampton area. I have been married for 14 years to my husband David and we have two wonderful daughters, Samantha and Madeline, who are students at Sacred Heart School. We have a West Highland Terrier named Rudy, whose beautiful "sister" Tess is in heaven watching down on us right now. I like to play golf, watch football, go to the beach and of course I love almost all things musical! Our greatest joy is watching our daughters use the musical talents that God has given them. |
