Welcome to the Sacred Heart of Jesus School Library! Philosophy We hope to inspire our students to become life long readers and to learn to effectively locate and present ideas and information. Collection Our library has over 6100 books in our collection. We have added 150 new titles over the summer and they range from Gross Things in History (non-fiction) to Romeo and Juliet (fiction). There really is something for every student in our library. Policies and Procedures Students visit the library once a week. 15 minutes is devoted to library skills and 15 minutes to choosing books. Students are permitted to check out 2 titles per week. They can renew books twice, unless the book is on hold for someone else. When working on a special classroom project, such as poetry or science experiments, they are allowed to keep those books for a longer period of time and those titles do not count towards the 2 book limit. Students will be taught and are expected to take care of the books, however, accidents do happen. Please return the book with a note and we will repair it. Reminder slips for overdue books will be sent home regularly. You will be responsible for the cost of replacing a lost book, plus a $5.00 processing fee. Curriculum We will be following the Information Literacy Skills guideline from the Diocese. Our objective is to give students the ability to locate, access, evaluate, and use information. These skills will be taught in conjunction with the classroom curriculum. Students will also be introduced to and encouraged to read books of every genre. A Little About Me My name is Mary Kay Duckworth. My husband Tim and I are the parents of four Sacred Heart School graduates. I graduated from Moravian College with a B.A. in English. I previously taught 6-8 grade Art at Sacred Heart and K-8 Art at St. Theresa's in Hellertown. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and knitting. |
