Art Education
My name is Jodi Keim and I have spent 17 years being a member of the Sacred Heart School family; first as a parent and now as a faculty member. I am truly blessed to be a part of this community and have the privilege to work with the children in an area that I feel is vital to all students ... art!

Welcome to the Art Department

where our creative students truly put the "art" in Sacred Heart!

I believe that the arts are a vital part of each child's education and tell all my students that each and every one of them is an artist.  I firmly believe that it is not the end result but the process that is important.  I always encourage them to express what they see, how they see things, and ask why they see things a certain way.  I truly hope to have an impact on my students in the world of art, and I have discovered that over the years I, in turn, have learned so much from them.

Classroom Rules

We do not say "I can't" in art class.  We do say "I will try my best".

  • We listen carefully and follow directions.
  • We always give 100% of our effort to each project.
  • We show respect for each other and for each other's artwork.
  • We take care of our supplies and share with each other.

Curriculum

The Diocese of Allentown’s elementary art mission is to assist students to use artistic gifts and abilities to glorify God, as they discover and recognize art in the world around them.  Learning more about themselves through art expression, they will gain self-confidence in their ability to communicate in the language of art. Studying works and styles of art from other times and cultures will enhance their personal appreciation of art.

Diocese of Allentown Art Mission Statement:
Throughout the school year we study various artists and their styles. We use a variety of medium including watercolors, tempera paint, oil pastels, and chalk.  We experiment with printmaking, collage, wax relief, as well as mixed media projects.  With the elementary grades I incorporate literature into the art curriculum.

We currently have an on-line art gallery on Artsonia.com.  If you haven't visited our gallery you have a treat in store for you.  It is an amazing website.

Homework

Every now and then the children will take home a project to complete, especially if they were absent and the project is one that will be graded.

A Little About Me

I am married to my husband and best friend Matt, for 24 years and we have three wonderful children.  My son Sean, who attended Sacred Heart from Kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated from Bethlehem Catholic, is currently a senior at the University of Delaware.  He will be graduating this May with Business/Marketing degree.  My son, Kevin, also attended Sacred Heart from Kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated from Bethlehem Catholic .  He is a junior at the University of Maryland and is on an NROTC Scholarship-Marine Corp. His unit is based at George Washington in Washington, DC. My daughter Morgan graduated from Sacred Heart this past June and has just begun her freshman year at Bethlehem Catholic.  Where has this time gone?

In my free time I love to spend as much time as possible with my family.  I love to write and hope to someday publish a children’s picture book.  Recently I’ve been entertaining the thought of writing for young adults, too.  My other hobbies include spending time with close friends, reading, coaching volleyball, and traveling.  In 2010 I had the pleasure of taking a dream vacation to Ireland.  It was truly a trip of a lifetime. The next trip on my list...a cruise to Alaska.
